This is the proper utilization of water in order to ensure that it is not wasted. Water conservation is important as it ensures the available water, the 1 % which is drinkable is well taken care of. Therefore, water is a precious resource; that is required by life on earth. That is; humans, animals and plant life. Hence, the need of water conservation and having good water- using habits.
Importance of Water Conservation.
No individual can stay without water even for as long as a week. Animals and plants require water to grow and stay healthy. Inadequate or lack of water supply can cause the ecosystem to be unbalanced. The lakes and reservoirs provide a home to the wildlife; for instance; the fish lives in water and it is able to acquire its food in water. Other animals drink water for their survival. Leaving water running while washing the dishes or when brushing your teeth, leads to a lot of water wastage. This can create problems with the ecosystems in, keeping the natural cycle of life stable. Plus not to forget proper use of water as a resource, helps in saving money that is used in paying the bills. Hence, an individual can have the money for other things or as savings.
Practical Things to Do To Conserve Water.
Turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth, this conserves the water that would have been lost.
Taking showers instead of having baths as less water is used.
Repairing the leaking faucet immediately a leak is noticed.
Turning off the faucet tightly.
Ensuring when doing the laundry, you have a full load therefore, the washing machine will be full and thus no water is wasted.
Using of rainwater where possible. For instance in the farm instead of using house water.
The Water Cycle.
In this cycle, nature finds a way to recycle water over and over again. Thus water is able to be used and reused. This process starts by; the evaporation of water from the water body when it is heated by the sun. The water is heated up, becomes vapor through a process called evaporation. The water vapor is lighter than liquid water; therefore, it floats on the atmosphere. The vapor becomes clouds, the clouds are light thus are moved around by the wind. As the vapor gets colder and condenses back to liquid water. The water will get heavier and will eventually fall as precipitation (rain or snow). It will then end up in water reservoirs like lakes, rivers, and ocean. Also, the water can soak into the earth and absorbed by plants. The water in a water body is again; heated by the sun and it evaporates to the atmosphere again and the process goes on.
For water to be conserved there needs to be an awareness on how to conserve water; plus the importance of conserving it. Therefore, you need to know all the techniques to conserve the water.
